Both the boys got some lovely gifts from Paul's parents, Jordan received some jumpers knitted by his Grandmother as well as a couple of model cars (one of which is the car Paul wants to buy - the Nissan ZX350) and Paul was given a nice T/Shirt with a picture of one of the lions from the Lion Park which has been in the news lately.
We were surprised to find New Zealand, particulary Whangarei very expensive. After eating breakfast at the local bakery the first morning which didn't have many healthy options, we decided to buy our own fruit and eat it at the motel. For a bunch of banana's, 3 apples, 6 pears, some grapes, a couple of kiwi fruit and 2 plums it cost us $30.00!!
After breakfast we usually found ourselves wandering around town and on one of our morning wanderings found a cafe with the chess board painted on the concrete complete with wooden chess pieces. Jordan was very intrigued with this so that night I was given a 15min tutorial so Jordan and I could play a game against Daddy the following morning - well you can guess who won!!
The following morning we invited Paul's parents and it was a competition against Paul and his father with a show of Jordan teaming up with his grandfather and me teaming up with Paul. It was looking like a sure win for Paul and I until the very end when Les pulled a checkmate out of his pocket and won the game!! Both Les and Jordan were very pleased with themselves.......
As we had a very early flight on Saturday morning and it is a 2hr drive from Whangarei to Auckland we headed down the day before and stayed at a motel near the Airport. This gave Paul an opportunity to catch up with an old friend Pete who met us at the motel and we spent a lovely couple of hours chatting to him before a relatively early night ready for our flight home the next morning.
