Activity Chart & Spiders

Are you wondering how Activity Charts and Spiders go together - well they don't, not really but these are the things that have happened here in the last couple of days. We have had the Activity Chart for a couple of days now and I am astounded at the results of it. I know it is new and the interest will probably wear off a little bit, but I really did not think it would have the interest shown as it has.
Most of the things on the Activity Chart are normal everyday occurances like brushing teeth, combing hair, getting dressed on his own. I have thrown in a challenge of making the bed and his daily "help" of setting the table. Oh and we have also included 1 thing that mummy and daddy want help remembering - daily drink of Essential Greens and Probiotics so I am happy for him to get a sticker for reminding us to give them to him. The chart is divided up into morning activities and evening activities and highlighted by colour. which works well for us because "colour" is our theme at the moment. When Jordan completes an activity he can put a sticker (which he chose especially for the chart) in the relevant spot and when he reaches 20 stickers (part of our daily maths) he gets a treat.
It is day 3 and he already has 16 stickers...... and as for the challenge item, mmmm think it will have to be reviewed!! 1st morning he came out and said I made the bed mummy but it is a bit lumpy. I can cope with lumpy!! OK so the doona was on sideways and on a bit of an angle but he did it totally on his own and was so proud of doing it. This is what I love about his activity chart - the pride he is showing in completing these tasks and how he feels when he completes the challenge. Yes he will get a reward but that is so minor compared to the rewards he is already receiving from himself.
The calander and the Activity Charts combined have been such a hit and are teaching him so much (all self-initiated). He is now so aware of our daily occurances, who's birthdays are coming up, what days he goes to school, the library - boy I think I have my own little secreatary in the making here....... seriously though, he has grabbed onto the calander and is really starting to understand the order of the days of the week, the date, the month and year and for the most-part it is all by his own initiative. I find myself going to his calander to see what date it is and what we have on. I just love it.
Ok, now for the spiders (and their web) - this is the drawing Jordan did the other day and I just love it. It is probably the only time I am EVER going to love spiders........... sorry, I don't kill them (I yell for Paul to come and put them outside as far away from the house as possible) but I don't like them either!
