We woke up this morning and it was raining and very windy. As we were wanting to catch the 9.00am ferry at Townsend to Keystone we were up and about, packed up and set to go very early. Arriving at the ferry we found out it wasn't running due to the windy weather. Being optomistic, we decided to stop at the local McDonalds to fire up the trusty google maps and look at our options. It wasn't long before we got chatting to a couple of local characters who gave us a rundown on some local history, some McDonalds toys collected over time for Jordan and informed us that the Edmond to Kingston Ferry was our best option and because it was a much bigger ferry would still be running. Well there are times when you don't need a computer!!
We set off to Edmond which was about 45mins away and having just missed one ferry sat in the the RV enjoying our lunch while we waited for the next ferry due in 1/2 hour. Jordan loved the ferry ride and the big waves that were crashing up against the ferry. He spent most of the time playing happily with the little girl at the next table pretending to fall over in the seat because of the big waves (you would have loved it mum - NOT!) 30mins later we were on the other side and ready to disembark.
We had one more scheduled stop at a McDonalds (this time we really did need the computer as Paul had a lesson with Nick) and it had the biggest playground I have ever seen at a McDonalds - more like the variety you get at the indoor playcentres where you pay to enter. Anyway Jordan had a fantastic time making quite a few friends and playing very very hard. I practically needed to wring him out when we were ready to leave!
Travelling the last 1/2 hr in the dark we arrived at the KOA to find the gates closed and nobody seemed to be around. Paul did think he could maybe drive through the exit but on inspection discovered it had a tire puncture strip across it. Eventually I noticed a radio microphone and suggested he try that and thankfully somebody was at the other end. Although they don't normally take bookings during the week and couldn't understand how our booking went through, they were quite happy to let us stay and led us to our site for the night.
Whilst waiting at the gates Paul had read a sign saying there had been 4 bear sightings with strong recommendations not to approach them. Keeping this in mind Paul was quickly connecting up the RV when Jordan came to his rescue. Don't worry Daddy, I'll protect the door and keep a lookout for bears and promptly locked the door, Jordan was inside and Daddy was outside!!
All turned out well with a record set for connecting the RV and a hot dinner was bubbling away on the stove cooking very shortly after.
