Heading off for Salt Lake City today, our scenery provided mountain streams and lakes with people fishing in them and the snow is slowly disappearing. The snow capped mountains are still there as a backdrop but they are getting further and further away.
We passed Utah State University and I was thinking to myself what a wonderful atmosphere for studying with the backdrop of the beautiful snow crusted mountains, all it needs to bring itself up with Cambridge or the like is large manicured gardens and guess what, that is what I saw with students laying around on the grass reading books in the sunshine - what a wonderful place to study at.
Whilst stopping to pick up a few grocery items we needed, Paul spotted an American Bagel shop and said we should try them so off we went. Well I had had bagels in the UK as they are more popular than rolls but over here what a smorgasboard. You can get chocolate, blueberry, sundried tomatoe, potato to name a few and then you choose your Smear (I think they called it) which is a spread they put on it or you can choose to have a filling to make up a lunch bagel. We had ours toasted and Paul and I went halves in a chocolate bagel with a strawberry smear which was nice but I really enjoyed my Sundried tomatoe bagel which I simply had plain - delicious.
Paul also chose a blueberry bagel with blueberry smear and Jordan had a plain chocolate bagel.
You wouldn't think it to see them but they were really filling and that did us for lunch.
After stopping at another McDonalds for Jordan to have a play we headed off for our KOA. Driving through Salt Lake City we decided to keep going and get out of the main part of the city. The contrast here is just amazing and so different to what we have been driving through. The mountains are a constant backdrop but now instead of pastures and streams we are surrounded by roads and more roads - nowhere else does it quite like America! The skies have been so clear and the air so fresh that it has been quite a shock to come back to fog. So far the only places we really haven't enjoyed are the actual big cities although after saying that I am looking forward to going to Vegas.
Finding a KOA at Provo, about 1/2hr past the main part of the city it has a little stream next to it with ducks wandering around the Park. There is also a sports field on the other side with a Playground in it so after settling in Jordan and I left Paul to his lesson with Nick and wandered over. The kids were all playing Baseball which was fun to watch as it is such an American sport and then Jordan played in playground and was shortly joined by a Spanish speaking family of 6 children.
Tomorrow is a rest day as Paul has been doing so much driving and at night time too so I think he needs some time away from the wheel. It will give him a chance to do some trading.
