OUR MAGICAL ADVENTURE - Day 28

Tuesday 14th April 2009 -Las Vegas to Lake Isabella, California
Paul really wanted to see Death Valley so today was the benefit of staying 1 less night at the Grand Canyon and a full day's drive to Las Vegas.
The winds through Indian Springs were incredible, they were strong enough to be throwing the RV across the road but once again Paul did an amazing job in driving the RV and keeping us safe. We stopped at a little place called Beatty which was very quaint and filled up with some petrol and off we set again into those amazingly strong cross-winds.
I have never really traveled through desert before and it is amazing and once again this brilliant landscape gave us a spectacular show with the winds in full force and showing us what a sandstorm is really all about!!
Once again we found an amazing spot for our “lunch with a view” and after lunch Paul decided to take a walk to the sand dunes – I was NOT happy with him as he broke all the golden rules.......
I would have loved to have gone for a walk to the sand dunes but knew Jordan would not have coped well with all the sand being blown into his eyes but Paul set out on his own anyway and we lost sight of him shortly after wards although thankfully Paul could see the RV at all times. Thankfully all was well and Paul came back with some great photo's.
Heading off we stopped at the village in the middle of the valley called Stovepipe Wells with the wind still blowing sand everywhere. Not surprisingly, after now seeing the place the National Park is closed to all traffic during June and July because of the excessive temperatures. The drive from here got quite scary in places due to the strong gale force winds with rocks flying up into the air and really testing Paul's driving skills. The Death Valley really was an amazing place to see.
Late in the afternoon we stopped to take a photo and I got such a shock. Opening the door of the RV I was hit with freezing cold winds which were so unexpected – it looked exactly the same as it had all day with the sun shining but I think it was the coldest I have felt so far or rather maybe it was just the shock of being in the warmth of the Death Valley all day and the contrast made it all the more colder. It certainly goes to show how you need to be prepared for the dramatic climate changes Mother Nature provides. Paul continued driving into the night with Jordan falling asleep and arriving safely at the Lake Isabella KOA. After a nice hot meal for Paul and I (Jordan stayed asleep) it was off to bed really for our drive back to L.A. Tomorrow.
