Recently I have been drawn to all that is Waldorf inspired. Interestingly when we lived in Melbourne before moving to QLD, we were just around the corner from a Steiner school and we always intended sending our children to a Steiner School. After our move to QLD, due to distance I found out about Montessori and moved in that direction. I believe Jordan's personality is suited to both of these styles and I also believe they can compliment each other so at the moment whilst continuing with Montessori I will also be exploring the world of Waldorf and incorporating as I learn.
I am also being pulled back to Nature very strongly and celebrating our beautiful earth and traditions that have long been forgotten. This has been a journey both Paul and I have been on for quite some time but after reading "Anastasia" it has become very very important to us.
So today I am loving the European (Waldorf) "Birthday Ring". It is a beautiful symbolic celebration of life and birthdays. I want to connect the meaning of birthdays for Jordan with the meaning of life and Mother Earth.
The Birthday ring is traditionally from Germany and is a symbolic way to celebrate the anniversary of your child's birth and show reverence for each year of their life thus far. A birthday ring consists of a wooden circle with holes representing each year of life. On your child's first birthday you would place one candle on the ring and fill the rest of the holes with figures. On each consecutive birthday you would replace one figure with a candle. Finally the ring will be fully illuminated depending on how many holes you have in the ring.

It could also be added to a nature table when the decorations are changed to suit the season or occasion.
I just love it and all it represents!
I was certain i left a comment on this post just the other day.
