How to make your own toothpaste.
Today's "Natural" Cleaning" recipe is one for us rather than the house.

I haven't made this myself yet but I intend to within the next couple of days.  The majority of toothpastes sold today contain fluoride along with countless other chemicals and for those that don't they cost a fortune.

I personally choose NOT to use or drink anything with fluoride in it (an additional reason to move to the country and have our own water supply).  I know fluoride has been marketed as the best protection for your teeth but did you know it is actually a poisonous chemical that was originally an industrial waste product.  It can cause cancer, damages our nervous system and rather than strengthening our teeth it can actually create weak teeth and bones.

The 2 main ingredients for making your own toothpaste are Coconut oil and Bi-carb soda - just use a 50/50% ratio.  You could also add a drop of Spearmint or Peppermint essential oil and if you need to sweeten it a little use some Stevia powder.

Heat the Coconut oil in a small pan (do not let it boil) until liquid.  Take off the heat and let it cool slightly then add the Bi-carb soda.  Mix well.  Add essential oil and Stevia.  Pour into a glass jar with a lid then spoon some out and use as you would normal toothpaste.

Coconut Oil will change consistency depending on the temperature so you may want to rinse with warm water.  It does not need to be refrigerated and as Coconut Oil is antibacterial, antiviral and anti fungal it will help to keep your toothbrush clean.

  1. Sounds interesting. I use 50 bicarb/50 salt with a few drops of peppermint as a tooth paste. Might have to give this a go to see how it works although im pretty happy with what we use
